The thistle hotel was the first time me and my partner had stayed away, we were welcomed into the hotel, that's always a good start, the staff were friendly and helpful, polite and smartly dressed, the facilities at the hotel are top notch, the swimming pool, gym, sauna and a steam room. Everything was clean and tidy, very respectable, gave the hotel a good name, great location and loads of places near by to go to, shopping, eating out, leisure centres close by. Me and my partner would recommend it :)
There was nothing to dislike, didn't eat in the hotels restaurant so can't speculate
On arrival the first words from the receptionist was,"you are not booked in here.No greetings or welcome. A room was eventually allocated to us.Number 248,as we had been up all night we collapsed on the bed and fell asleep. On awaking very stiff and cold due to the uncomfortable bed and air conditioning not controlling to the set temp, we were horrified to see the state of the furniture and general condition of the room.It was as if it was a room where every thing not up to standard was kept.We did not have time to complain at this time as we had to attend a function. The next morning after an uncomfortable night the worst was yet to come my wife lifted the bed sheets to check on the type of mattress and we were shocked to find that it was very badly stained in several places, you do not need a vivid imagination as to be wondering the cause. We complained to the duty Manager who was very apologetic and offered us breakfast while he investigated.(A Good thing this was complementary). The Duty Manager did everything within his power to do what he could for us and assured us the room would be refurbished before re allocating to other guests. The booking price for this room was £84 (room only) Two weeks earlier we stayed at a "Budget" Inn which was far superior in every way.
It is ideally located for us when we visit our daughter who lives in the city but does not have a spare room to accommodate us..
Good location just outside St. Albans - just a quick taxi ride to the city centre. Staff were very helpful.
The room was far too hot, the window would only open a couple of inches and there wasn't any airconditioning.
Very conveniently situated, quiet, very nice room with green fields at the back, pleasant staff, good room service, nice gym and pool. Quiet garden and well maintained.
Dining room was shut both nights due to weddings. Disappointed not to have been forewarned that this was the case as reason for staying was to take elderly mother to see the family nearby and we did not want to have to go out in the evenings. We did not eat breakfast in the hotel because we were told it was £15 per person per head. Not sure if this is true but it was a sufficient deterrent for us as we would not need to eat that amount! Also disappointed that smoking area was the porch, all the wedding guests were puffing away right in the doorway and it was difficult to get in and out of the front door.
Very easy to find a lovely looking hotel amazing spa + pool etc simple short drive to town centre easy access to main motor ways! Staff were very very polite interior matched the high standard of the outside. Will defo be coming back!
Staff friendly, decent steak for dinner and good coffee in the morning.
Breakfast £16.95!! drinks expensive (£8 for a glass of wine), stupid signposting in hotel so bar, pool and bedroom all difficult to find.
After reading other reviews for this hotel we did take some of the comments on board i.e. phoned hotel before stay to make sure we had a refurbished room overlooking the garden. We really enjoyed our stay the staff were very accommodating especially Christine and Tom in the restaurant. Just one blip was that the heater in the swimming pool was not working properly so the Jacuzzi and the pool was the same temperature (warmish) but they are to have an extensive refurbish programme soon.
pool area and sauna hotel rooms spacious and clean lovely restaurants nearby
If the deal had not appeared on Booked.net I would not have stayed here. Rather overpriced room rates.
A hotel of surprising proportions my room was a long way a way but it was quiet, as there was a wedding that night and i liked that the staff thought of that.
Excellent recreational facilities, very clean room, free parking, peace & quiet, nice surroundings.
Generally it was excellent, Good Location,Nice Room,Clean, all Facilities in room were good. Breakfast was very good and staff attentive.
Noke restaurant was superb. Good food, quiet, brief but capable wine list and friendly staff. Very convenient for the nearby Warner Bros Studio Tour.
great to have pool and health club included in the very resonable price (on specila deal)
Easy access; good location; lovely room; very comfortable bed. Leisure area very good. Excellent staff in all areas.
Let down by restaurant. Not a very attractive room. Cheap cutlery. Poor menu. Thought food not good value for money. Also, I am a Radio 4 girl and of all the tv channels & radio stations offered (many, many) Radio 4 included, Radio 4 was the only one not available. So I missed "Mark Steele visits....."
